How To Add a Color Wash Using Chalk Paint
Here is a French Provincial buffet that I finished a few years ago, and it is the perfect example of a color wash over paint. This look can be achieved using any brand chalk paint. In this case, I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in the color Provence, dark and clear waxes, and I distressed and whitewashed it using Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White.
Iām adding quite a few pics so you can (hopefully) tell the difference of the colors depending on the light. Before pic:
Here it is finished with a base coat and a wash.
To achieve this look, first apply one or two coats of your base color. Then take your color that you intend to use as a wash (in this case, white) and a small container or spray bottle of water. Taking your brush, first dip it into the water and then into the paint and apply liberally. You can either use your wet brush to swirl and stipple it on, or a cloth to dab it on.
I made a few videos on the process, and they can be found HERE. Thanks for reading!
