Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel

This buffet was originally painted in chalk paint and sealed with wax (not by me but someone had done it over the years). My customer wanted a new, sleeker look and we went for the color, Setting Plaster which is a Farrow and Ball color that I had color matched by Sherwin Williams.

I used the Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel paint and only needed one quart for this project. This is my second custom piece this year using this paint and I am a huge fan. The paint is self-leveling and the finish I prefer is Satin. It has a nice shine to it but is in no way a high gloss. The paint does not require any type of sealer because of the built-in urethane. It does smell a bit and I like to paint in the garage with this one.

The surface should be prepped first to make sure it is smooth and clean. It doesn’t require a primer and I typically use two to three coats for a perfect finish. It takes a few days to cure and I would give it even longer before placing anything heavy on it. Once it has dried, the finish is hard as a rock. It is the perfect paint for trim, furniture and kitchen cabinets (I used it on my kitchen cabinets in my house in Secretary).

On this project, I first used my orbital sander and then wiped it back as best as possible. You can see the process in the video below. I love the new look!
